Bruce Wasserstein Donates $25 Million to HLS

In 2006, Lazard CEO and Chairman Bruce Wasserstein agreed to help the Northwest corner project of Harvard Law School. He is a graduate of the school, where he earned his Juris Doctor. During a corporate law class, Bruce Wasserstein came to speak of his contribution in the building of a new academic center. “Our family is pleased to make a contribution to this dynamic institution which will continue to educate many of America’s leaders,” said Bruce Wasserstein during his visit to the campus.

During the 90s, it was evident that Harvard Law School’s facilities needed improvement. Thus, school leaders began to plan a project that would ultimately provide the campus with more utilizable spaces. The Northwest Corner project is a 250,000 square feet multiplex that can be found at the corner of Everett Street and Massachusetts Avenue. The structure will hold three centers: the Student Center, the Academic Center, and the Clinical Center. Bruce Wasserstein’s donation of $25 million came at the perfect time. Apparently, the project was still in need of funding, and it already had a design plan two years earlier.

Aside from Bruce Wasserstein, several Harvard Alumni also gave major donations to the project. The Northwest Corner complex has a large wing that will be named Wasserstein Hall in his honor. The building is set for ribbon cutting on 2011.
